On May 5th, 2018, I graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S. in Neuroscience with a concentration in Behaviors and Systems (a mouth full lol). I was 1 of 4 black neuroscience majors in the college of Lyman Briggs (separate from the college of Natural Science) and about 1 of 11 black graduates from the college of Lyman Briggs. I wanted to say that to show how important that was to me; when I came into MSU in 2013, not many people (especially black students) were talking about neuroscience as a major, and through the years a lot of black students switch out of Briggs. Neuroscience was not an easy major, in fact it is probably one of the harder majors in natural science. But it is a very rewarding major and I loved every bit of it.
So, I graduated and what will I do now?
Well I have 1 more class to finish for my degree and I enrolled in a random science course just because. So I will finish those this summer.
I also enrolled in an MCAT prep course (I'll write another post later on about the course in more detail). Since classes will start on Monday May 14th, I decided I will also start my MCAT prep the same day. My exam is on September 8th and I won't be cancelling this time! I cancelled my last exam test date, you'll get a chance to read more about why later on.
I also get to continue working as a Medical Scribe while in Kalamazoo, I decided I will do that full time. Some of my readers may know this, but I was a Scribe in Jackson this last year working in the ER. So I'm excited that I don't have to commute far for work anymore and no more overnight shifts or weekends! In Kalamazoo, it is all outpatient and I have been training to be able to work with some neurosurgeons and hopefully a neurologist. It's way more intense than working in the ER (surprisingly) but I love it already.
Now, for my big announcement...
I was accepted into the MSU Medical Neuroscience online graduate certificate program. This is the post-bac program I wrote about in "Applying to a "Post-Bac" Program". I received the news this past Thursday and I was so excited! I was accepted under the condition that I will take one of the required courses and earn a 3.0. Which isn't any different from my goals anyway because like I said in the previous post, I am using this program to enhance my GPA. I'm a little nervous to start this program because it is graduate level course work, but I'm confident that I will do just fine.
This past week felt long, I only worked 3 days this week but I was feeling exhausted by 10 pm everyday, like I didn't just finish college with a few all nighters. If you have tips on how to transition into this adult life, pass them my way lol I'm struggling.
That's all for now, if there is anything you would like to see me write about in the future, leave a comment!

P.S. Look at my favorite man, he graduated too with a B.A. in Finance.
